District 17 Newsletter

     The district monthly GSR meeting was held Monday, April 27th, 2015 at the Iron Mountain, Mi. Alano Club.  The meeting was opened with a moment of silence followed by the Serenity Prayer.  In attendance were: Bruce L., Bruce T., Debbie G., Cliff W., Matt S., Betty S., Karen K., and Linda P.

     Treasures report was read and accepted.

     Corrections Report:

  • Debbie G. reported that Karen K. was back and that a new schedule for correction meeting volunteers will be pending. Betty S will be gone most of July in regards to rotation.
  • Discussion question: “Should correction meetings be mandatory for inmates?” Group conscious felt that Tradition #11, ‘Attraction rather than promotion’ should be maintained and that no discussion with the DCSD was needed.

     Motion made and accepted to accept report as given.

     Webmaster Report:

     Have continued being active to keep the district 17 website updated as well as the website at Hostek Web Host site for District 17.  This has been performed in my home office.  Happy to report that the local AA Hotline 0900 has been active this past month with no interruption.
     On Monday, April 27 reported to district office for updates including option #9 of the AA Hotline 0900 and to attend the monthly GSR meeting at 6 pm.

     The District 17 Office has 450 meeting cards in drawer.
     The 0900 AA Hotline registered _50_   calls including 7 calls with option #8.
     The District website recorded_128_hits this past month with the counter at 10,129 total hits.                      _

    Any member of the fellowship with sobriety can become a contact on the option #8 contact listing for a 3-month period.  This listing should periodically be updated, especially for those who are about to take a 3-month turn with their listing on option #8.
     As a regular monthly reminder, must train people (female/male) the operation as coordinator of the 0900 AA Hotline and as webmaster of the district website.  Anyone interested in getting involved with being webmaster or coordinator for 0900 AA Hotline please contact a District 17 committee member, or show up at the monthly GSR district meeting the last Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at District 17 Office at Alano Club Iron Mountain.

     Archives Report:

  • Gloria (Area 74 Archives Chair) submitted an informational CD on the history of AA and Archiving from Ohio. She is also looking to train volunteers for Archiving.

     DCM Report:

     None

     OLD BUSINESS:

  • New Secretary and DCM still needed.
  • Linda P. volunteered for District 17 Secretary. Cliff motioned, Debbie G. seconded the motion. Motion for Linda to become Interim Secretary accepted.
  • Bruce T. volunteered to become interim DCM for District 17. Cliff motioned, Debbie G. seconded the motion. Motion for Bruce T. to become DCM was unanimously and ecstatically accepted. Our heartfelt gratitude to Bruce T for coming forward.
  • Still looking into cheaper phone rates.

     New Business:

  • Steve S. submitted the District 17 Intergroup financial report to the GSR.

          Our sincere thank you for his commitment to Intergroup again this year.

  • Karen G. asked if our intergroup treasury is affiliated with A.A. and how donations to intergroup is asked for and handled. There was discussion as to the history of our Intergroup and how A.A. groups donated. It was agreed that when Any group votes on a subject, the group should be fully advised on what they are voting on and that the vote be in keeping with all our traditions.
  • May GSR Meeting will be at the Iron Mountain Alano Club on Monday, May 18th at 6:00pm.
  • Meeting closed at 7:00pm with The Lord’s Prayer.

     When anyone anywhere reaches out I want the hand of AA always to be there and for that I am responsible.
