DISTRICT 17 NEWSLETTER

Greetings,
Peace and Serenity to each of you! And…Happy New Year! The past year has been full of surprises and challenges both in and out of AA. The good news is that we are still sober, a testimony that AA is alive and well. I would like to thank everyone in the District for their tremendous support in the last two years, it has been wonderful.
The District monthly GSR meeting was held on Tuesday, December 18th, 2007 at the new District 17 Central Office, located in the old Re-Entry house, 373 Woodward Ave. in Kingsford. In attendance were Cliff W., Dennis S., Steve S., Anne A., Kevin, Brian, Bruce L., Ken W., Jennifer J., Aaron H., & Terri.
The meeting opened with the Serenity Prayer.

Financial: See financial report on the following page provided our District 17 Treasurer, Cliff W. Currently two signatures - Steve S. & Cliff W. - are required on district checks. It is planned to add Bruce L. as a third signature ASAP.
The first order of business was election of officers:
Election of officers: After discussion, Steve S. agreed to remain as DCM for another two year term, although he would prefer to be alternate DCM since he has difficulty attending the many requisite assemblies & conferences. Cliff W. made the motion, Ken W. seconded, & Steve was elected unanimously. Ken W. nominated Cliff W. for alternate DCM & this was seconded by Bruce L. He was elected unanimously. Steve S. nominated Bruce L. for district treasurer, was seconded by Aaron H., & elected unanimously. Steve S. nominated Jennifer J. for district secretary, Aaron H. seconded, & she was elected unanimously. Cliff has agreed to remain as Webmaster for the district website, & Jen J. & Anne A. agreed to learn the workings of the 0900 software. After Cliff gives them lessons, they will eventually take over responsibility for this.
Beginning January 2008, DCM = Steve S.
Alternate DCM = Cliff W.
Treasurer = Bruce L.
Secretary = Jen J.
Webmaster = Cliff W.
We still need to find an archivist as well as a PI person for our district.
District Office: The new district central office is 373 Woodward Avenue, Kingsford, MI. However, for contributions the mailing address is still P.O. Box 415, Iron Mountain, MI 49801. Although the district computer is still lodged at Cliff’s house, it will eventually be moved to our district central office. Cliff made a motion that all district officers be given keys to the office, although Cliff will be the only officer with an outside key. This was seconded by Jen & unanimously accepted. Cliff also proposed paying rent ($30.00/month) to Community Substance Abuse in three month increments. This would be $ 90.00 beginning January 1st, 2008.

Intergroup: Our District Intergroup is held in April, & the Intergroup committee needs to begin meeting. We decided to hold our first planning meeting prior to the next district meeting on January 29th, 2008 at 5:00 at the Central District Office. Please plan to attend if you are interested in working on our Intergroup. All Intergroup items have been moved to our central office, & the suggestion was made to request $5.00/month rent for storage. The Intergroup committee will discuss this at the planning meeting.
2009 Spring Conference: Our bid for the 2009 Spring Conference has been accepted. This means lots of work, but also lots of fun & we need to get started planning it. Anyone who has input, suggestions, or questions about this should plan to attend our next district meeting.

District 17 Meeting:
*** The next district meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 29th, 2007 beginning at 6:30 PM CST. The first Intergroup planning committee will be held just prior to this, beginning at 5:00 PM CST. If you are interested in working on the Iron Mountain/Kingsford Intergroup this April, please try to attend this meeting. We will hold all winter district meeting on the last Tuesday of the month at the new district office. This spring we may start rotating again if that is what the members of AA and the GSRs want. Remember, your District Committee members are hear to serve you and your groups. Please give us your input!
