DISTRICT 17 NEWSLETTER

The District monthly GSR meeting was held on Tuesday, March 25^th at the new District 17 Central Office, located in the old Re-Entry house, 373 Woodward Ave. in Kingsford. In attendance were Cliff W., Dennis S., Bruce L., Aaron H., Steve S., Jen J., & Joanne B.

Website: The District 17 website can be viewed at http://district17a74.org. We had 134 hits on the website just last month! Please check our website for important announcements. Check our area website at http://area74.org to stay up to date with all area business.

Intergroup: The Intergroup meeting was held prior to the district meeting, & we hashed out final arrangements. Our Intergroup will be held SATURDAY, April 19^th, at the Knights of Columbus Hall! We have decided to give away door prizes this year, so please ask your individual groups to donate something (A 12X 12, meditation book, Grapevine subscription, etc … anything recovery related) to give away. Please attend our next Intergroup planning meeting on Tuesday, April 8^th, @ 5:00 CST at the Central District Office. You may also contact Jen J. (906)-396-2668 or Angie W. (906)-774-1642 for more information. You can print the attached flyer, & bring to any meetings that you attend.

***We are the only group this year that will have a dance associated with our Intergroup, & really have to advertise this fact to make up for the exorbitant price of a D.J.!

2009 Spring Conference: The established dates for the 2009 Area 74 spring conference are 15^th, 16^th, & 17^th of May 2009. The place is at Pine Mountain Resort in Iron Mountain. The next planning meeting will be held in conjunction with the District 17 GSR meeting on April 29^th, 2008. We need help from AA's in all of District 17. If you have been waiting for something awesome to volunteer on for service work, this is it. Please get involved. We only have 1 year & 2 months to plan, & lots to do. Computer: Our district computer is set up & seems to be working well! Cliff purchased the "Easy Voice" Software, so our 0900 number is running. One problem that occurred last week was that the computer turned off (Possibly due to a power surge), so the 0900 # was off-line for 3 days. After some interesting discussion, it was decided that Steve will look into the cost of purchasing a back-up battery to eliminate that problem.

New business: Cliff also purchased a cool sign for our office door … "District 17 Area 74 Central Office" … Dennis made a motion to reimburse Cliff for the cost of the sign & the software, which totaled $44.60. This was seconded by Aaron & passed unanimously.

Cliff will go ahead & order our new, YELLOW meeting cards from CJ Graphics. The motion was made by Steve S. & seconded by Aaron H. to increase the number of cards printed to 2,000. The passed unanimously. It was also decided to endorse our prior decision to include only groups that have been active for at least a year, even if they are registered groups.

Cliff will be taking on the responsibility of updating our information for New York’s Meeting Guide. Hopefully, he’ll be getting the updated meeting info from Marion soon.
