District 17 Newsletter

April 29th, 2008

Thanks to Joanne for the excellent notes, as I was unable to be there.

The District monthly GSR meeting was held on Tuesday, April 29th at the new District 17 Central Office, located in the old Re-Entry house, 373 Woodward Ave. in Kingsford, with FOUR people in attendance (What’s up with that, people?) In attendance was Cliff W., Bruce L., Steve S., & Joanne B.

Corrections: A correction’s report was not made this month.

Financial: See financial report on the following page provided our District 17 Treasurer, Bruce L. Since the new meeting cards were printed, we are very low on district funds, & this may turn out to be a problem. Bruce suggested that we send a nice letter to all groups informing them that the cost of meeting cards has risen, & we need contributions to help pay for them. He also suggests that we site the 0900 # as an additional expense, as well as the district office. Steve suggested charging the groups for meeting cards, if they have not contributed to the district, but he also notes that this ploy never worked in the past. Joanne suggested that we trust in our HP, & everything will work out as it should.

Website: The District 17 website can be viewed at http://district17a74.org. Please check our website for important announcements. Check our area website at http://area74.org to stay up to date with all area business.

Intergroup: We had an Intergroup wrap up meeting Tuesday, May 6th, 2008, to discuss any problems, concerns, etc, & to do a post-Intergroup inventory. Total amount deposited from this year’s Intergroup was $1,236.46. Amazing what a bunch of alcoholics can do, eh?

2009 Spring Conference: The established dates for the 2009 Area 74 spring conference are 15th, 16th, & 17th of May 2009. The place is at Pine Mountain Resort in Iron Mountain. Since there were only three people (Cliff, Joanne, & John) at the planning meeting, no business was conducted. OUR NEXT CONFERENCE PLANNING MEETING WILL BE HELD AT 6:00 PM … TUESDAY, MAY 27TH, 2008, BEFORE THE NEXT DISTRICT MEETING. Please get involved. We only have 1 year to plan, & lots to do. Any questions, please contact Steve S. (906)-774-8258.

Computer: Steve will look into the cost of purchasing a back-up battery to eliminate our problem with power-outages, & found that a battery back-up running for 17 minutes (with a monitor on) cost $39.00. Since our computer runs without a monitor, the back-up will last longer, but there’s no way to compute exactly how long. A back-up running for 40minutes costs $69.00 with the same restrictions. We do need some sort of a back up, no matter what the cost, since the way it is now, our whole system shuts down with even the slightest loss of power or power-surge. Steve will do some more checking.                           Page 2
