District 17 Newsleter con't...

Voting rights or protocol was discussed. This potato got a little hot, so we didn’t handle it very long.  If the group conscience is to be accurate, the voting should be done by group members only, not visitors. If you vote at what you consider your home group, do you vote at other meeting that you are a regular at? If it is local business that only affects the group activities such as meeting time, coffee, where, birthdays, probably regulars can vote whether register or not. Each group should make up these rules. If the meeting is voting on issues that affect AA (the district ) as a whole, maybe it should be only registered group members. If the same person votes against donating to the district at three meetings that he or she frequents is this fair or ethical? Probably not. The answer probably lies in the Service Manual. I suggest we read it and look for an answer.  It was agreed at the meeting that most of our meetings do not have registered home group members, even the one that does is outdated. What is the answer and how do we suggest it to the groups?  Bring it up, see what happens.

District Meeting (GSR) Meeting will be rotating from day to day, from place to place. Any suggestions will be appreciated to make the meeting more attractive and fun. I would like it rotated because we get to see different meeting places, different towns, different faces. I know it will be a hardship to have to leave Iron Mountain, but I feel the return will be more fellowship and more support for what we are trying to bring to the district.  It would be nice to have coffee and donuts and to make it like a workshop at each meeting. We do need to hold workshops on many issues facing our district and it would be great to have the time and committee chairs for each of the issues we have discussed.

The women’s jail meeting is being handled by Camille B. She is requesting support for the jail meeting. We will discuss this at the next district meeting.

I want to thank all those who came and shared time at the meeting, it is appreciated. I know there are a lot of things to work out in our district, but that’s OK! That’s how we grow. If we stagnate then what, we become complacent, and then what? I think we all can guess where the downward spiral leads. I know some of you have done more for our area than I have, but I am trying to get up to speed each week.  I really think we need to set the example for our district. I am hoping to work out individual workshops on each of the issues we face because one hour a month is not enough.

 In service,

 Steve S. DCM, district 17.
