DISTRICT 17 NEWSLETTER

August 26th, 2008

The District monthly GSR meeting was held on Tuesday, August 26th at the District 17 Central Office, located in the old Re-Entry house, 373 Woodward Ave. in Kingsford. In attendance were Cliff, Bruce, Steve, Kevin, Dennis, Todd, John, James, Terry, Mike, & Jen.

Corrections: No corrections report this month.

In September, our Internet & Website bills will come due, as well as rent for the year ($90.00). We were given a donation from Alanon for $20.00 to help pay for the meeting cards. Bruce wanted to be sure that we could accept this in accordance with our traditions. After some discussion, Steve proposed that we accept this as payment in full for cards received & to be received. It was seconded by Cliff & unanimously passed.

Steve was reimbursed $4.22 for two keys for the office building, & he donated a $50.00 printer (Lexmark) for the office & Cliff will donate a UPC cable and will set it up in the coming month.

2009 Spring Conference: I will send conference information later, as I haven’t had a chance to write it up yet. However, conference planning is going extremely well. There’s lots of interest & enthusiasm. Keep up the great work everyone!

Computer: Steve sent back the UPC power back-up for $104.00 (which includes shipping), since he was able to get a different one for $70.66 which is guaranteed to be uninterruptible. . If it works, the district can vote on whether to reimburse him. If not, he’ll use it at home, & the district won’t be out any $$. Steve has also donated a printer to use in our office. Cliff will look into getting a district email address so monthly minutes can be sent directly to our District office. He is also working on building folders (& back-ups) for Iron Mountain Intergroup files, District 17 Minutes, & 2009 Conference Planning reports on our District Computer.

New Business: Steve received an Eastern Directory, which appears to be completely accurate (!), but has no meeting times included.

Our district has no Public Information committee or Archivist, & we are in need of both. If you are interested in either of these positions, PLEASE come to our next District meeting & we can discuss the responsibilities involved.

James & Todd were interested in the GSR responsibilities & District meeting purpose. We talked a bit about how important service work is to our sobriety, & how we could share this enthusiasm with our groups & meeting attendees. How can we get GSRs to attend our District meetings? James suggests a "telephone tree" or, as Steve has done in the past, an email reminder. Word-of-mouth works as well.

The next district meeting will be held at 6:30 PM Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 at the District 17 Central Office, located in the old Re-Entry house, 373 Woodward Ave. in Kingsford. There will be a conference planning meeting immediately preceding the district meeting at 6:00 PM. PLEASE TRY TO ATTEND. Any questions? please contact Steve S. (906)-774-8258.
