0900 AA Hotline: Recorded 81 hits this past month, (The Do-Not-Call list is working) 69 actual calls selected options.

District 17 central office & website: Recorded 76 hits this past month . Joe L. has been trained as an alternate webmaster. Welcome Joe. Jen gave Joe her key for the District office and Cliff will have another key made. Only Cliff has a key for the building, which is stated on DO NOT DUPLICATE. Cliff will make sure someone has the key to the building if he leaves town.

Meeting Cards: We have ~ 150 left in the office. Since school will be back in session next week, Jennifer will check with the DI Tech Center Graphics department then for new cards & get a quote for next months’ meeting.

Archives Chair report: John: Cliff & John went to Merrill & found that the Area is concerned about oral histories now that our old-timers are dying. That will be discussed in detail at the Fall Conference/Assembly. They also want local archivists to have an inventory, which John has. Archives report was unanimously accepted.

Public Information Committee Chair report: James B. Hereby please find my report regarding service work for our district for the month of August 2009. The Manager of Country Inn Suites was visited and I handed him a Big Book for display in there lobby library. Due to hotel policy they can not have the book on their shelf. He asked if he could keep it in his office and use it for internal use as from time to time employees struggle with alcohol and he can use it to help them. I also took a Big Book to Holiday Inn Express. I left it with the secretary to give it to the manager for display. I also left my telephone #. She has not returned my call.

I also left a Big Book with Timbers Motor Lodge and did not hear back from them. I left a Big Book with American Best Inn and the manager – Sherrill called me back and said I can bring more info for her hotel guests and she welcomes the fact that we are doing this. Big Books were taken to our library in town. They did not have a Big Book. I also handed them an Experience, Strength and Hope. I also visited Norway Library and donate a Big Book and Experience, Strength and Hope. I also gave Debbie G some literature for the prisons. I also visited the Northern Menominee Health Center in Spalding. I talked to Kathy the manager and handed her some flyers for display as well as meeting cards for our district. I visited with Mr. Bill Reid at North Pointe Behavioral Center, and I left some flyers with him to look at. He told me that he would like for me to come give a presentation 15 minutes of what we do and don’t do and to see where we can fit in. We can work with health care etc. their goal is more the prevention side where we work with the sick and suffering alcoholic. I also attended the workshop for the Coalition to Prevent Underage Drinking at Bay West College as a guest of Mr. Reid. I also talked to Miss Amy Laitilla - probation officer for Judge Tom Slagle and she will introduce me to the public prosecutor Mrs. Brule. I am making up envelopes for the court ordered subjects and as soon as I have the chance will take it to probation officer Laitilla. P/O Laitilla think it is an excellent idea that we come up with meetings/Step classes for Court-ordered people. Can we discuss this???

I would like to get more funds for Big Books or I will have to start begging from groups to provide me so I can go to all the hotels in the area and spread the message. The public is so uninformed. On Friday August 21st, I asked the Friday night group at Masonic temple and they pledged 4 Big Books. I will also present my letter written to court ordered people for discussion at the GSR meeting. (The over-whelming reaction to James’ letter was very positive. Excellent letter, James. He has another letter directed to patients at his doctor’s office, which would be included in an envelope for those people.) The coming month of September I will try concentrate on spreading the message to Crystal Falls area. I hope you find my service work in order. IN HIS SERVICE for the sick and suffering alcoholic. James B.

James would also like to have cards with his name & number. Is that possible? Cliff will check on this.

Dave: Wants a copy of James’ letter for his doctor. He’ll be happy to discuss it with her. He thinks many doctors are not well informed. Bruce: We’re doing this on a District level, but how much can the Area help us with this? He sees this as an Area job. Maybe they can provide funds &/or literature? This is one topic discussed at the Intergroup GSR meetings as well. Cliff: We’ll bring that up at the Fall Assembly. Also discussing having a CPC/PI workshop in our district. Ken: James is also doing CPC (Cooperation with Professional Community) work, so he’s actually PI/CPC chair. Bruce suggests for James to bring a proposal for funds. PI report was unanimously accepted.

Old business:  (tabled to next meeting, 0900 AA Hotline #8 option)

New business:  Laura: The Iron River Alano Club Groups are asking for support. The Club is in dire financial shape & could use help. Ken: The pamphlet entitled "So the Court is Sending You to AA - and You Hate the Idea" should be given out & probably in the packet that James is giving out to probation officers … Certain meetings are giving this out, & it’s a good pamphlet, but Jen suggests adding in the sentence "This means you must not discuss who you see at an AA meeting and they will respect your anonymity as well."

Cliff is asking for reimbursement for John for gas mileage in attending the Area District Committee meeting in Merrill WI (August 15th) $40.05.  Reimbursement was unanimously approved.

Ken:  Monday night meeting in Norway has switched locations. It now will be at the NEW Methodist/Lutheran Church off US2 as you enter Norway from the west at 8:00 CST. Ken also stated that the meeting may be changing to 7 p.m.
