District 17 Newsletter

The district monthly GSR meeting was held on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the District 17 Central Office, located at 373 Woodward Ave. in Kingsford.  The meeting opened with a moment of silence followed by the Serenity Prayer.  In attendance were Debbie G., James B., Cliff W., Joanne B., John L., Aaron H., John R., Marion H., Joe L., Bruce L, Brian G., Ken W., Betty S., Dave G.  and Erica H.

 Corrections Report:

Ken W. shared he needs a correction workbook to make sure he is following guidelines.  Norway group GSR needs to receive packet. 

Omar and Ken attended Florence Cty to represent AA to help inmates recently released to take them to meetings.  He also needs the WI corrections chair name.  He also shared everyone is doing a good job with jail meetings.  He is looking for more men to volunteer to help with jail meetings.  He would like to share videos at the jail meeting.

Webmaster/0900 Report:

On Friday, April 30, changes were made on District17 website concerning the meeting schedule. All smoking AA meetings were to become non-smoking. Added the monthly district newsletter.

The District Central Office has ____200______ meeting cards in drawer.

The 0900 AA Hotline ___59____ hits, including ___10___ calls w/no option pressed.

On Wednesday, May 26 will perform updates to announcements on both the website and 0900 AA Hotline option #9.

DCM Bruce L stated that on the area 74 level that there's a misunderstanding what 'District 17 Central Office' really means.  Is the office an Intergroup Office?

It's agreed by vote that the word 'Central' should be dropped making the office 'District 17 Office.'  Corrections will be made on the District 17 website.

Continue to work with the HP (Hewlett Packard) PSC 1350 all-in-one Printer/Scanner.

Archives Report:

John R. filed last month’s meeting & written cabinet it up to date.  Still looking for group histories. 

Public Information/PCP:

James shared that he got his P.I. committee together and they had a really good meeting which did include brownies and coffee!!  Hopefully they can meet once a month.  He ordered the videos “Hope” and “Sure Beats Sitting in a Jail Cell”. 

He cashed check from district in a PI/CPC bank account.

He also talked with probation officers and discussed what AA does and was invited to visit drug court.  He also brought up a question about open meetings.  Does everyone there have to identify themselves??  It was discussed and no was the answer. 

DCM Report:

Bruce went to spring conference and had an interesting time.  He brought back flyers and is urging everyone to read the grapevine feedback sheet and give feedback.  Next committee meeting is in June on the 9th, no time or place has been set.

 June 12 Intergroup is in Manistique.

Other News:

GSR’s of district are allowed to go to committee and assemblies. 

The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
