District 17 Newsletter

The district monthly GSR meeting was held Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the district central office, located at 373 Woodward Ave., Kingsford Mi. The meeting was opened with a moment of silence followed by the Serenity Prayer. In attendance were: Gordie P., Marion H., John R., Joanne B., Brian G., Tracy G., John L., Betty S., Aaron H., Dennis S., Cliff W., Joe L., Gray N. and Bruce L.

Bruce L. Started the meeting by reading a letter received from Erica H. informing the district that she had to resign as district secretary do to personal reasons .

Bruce Read the July minutes and only corrections noted was in financial report group 000144318 is the Friday a.m. group in Iron Mountain and 6 cans of coffee not 5 were brought to the jail. The minutes were then excepted.

Corrections Report:

Ken W. reported he had purchased Videos for the jail meeting for $26.50. It was voted on to reimburse Ken for the purchase. It was decided that the videos will be kept at the district office and can be checked out by contacting Joe L. at 396-2791.  A sign out log will be at the office.

Dennis S. has decided retire from correction after 18 yrs of service. We wish to thank him for his service to the alcoholic who still suffers. Ken read corrections minutes on the meeting policies for the Jail meeting.

It was reported that the women meeting is doing great.

There still is no meeting in Iron River.

Webmaster / 0900 Report:

Webmaster/Coordinator Report: 8-31-10

On Wednesday, July 28 Cliff W. reported to Standard Printing of the two errors on the new batch of printed meeting cards. The personnel pulled out the proof copy and stated that after Bruce and Cliff left the proof reading that no changes were made before going to press. The two errors were corrected on the proof copy and made ready for the next printing.

On Saturday, August 14, 2010 Cliff W. trained Darrel N. and Joe L. on operation of both webmaster and coordinator service work for district. Will further train in future as allowed.

On Tuesday, August 31 updated the website and the 0900 Hotline option #9 before the monthly meeting.

The District Central Office has ____1,700______ meeting cards in drawer.

The 0900 AA Hotline ___90____ hits, including ___45___ calls w/no option pressed. However, 21 calls were repeated calls probably from three telemarketer.

The District website ___149___ hits the past month.mailto:dcm@district17a74.org).

Cliff will train people (female/male) the operation as coordinator of the 0900 AA Hotline and as webmaster of the district website. If interested in getting involved with being webmaster or coordinator for 0900 AA Hotline please call Cliff W at 906-779-0915, contact a District 17 committee member, or show up at the monthly GSR district meeting the last Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at District 17 Office in Kingsford.

Archives Report:

John R. reported filed last month’s district report and wish to thank the Alano club for donating a 1999 photo album from the club. All history of the District AA is important.

John R. noted that as of December 31 his term of service will be up. So the district will need a new person to serve in this position.

Public Information / CPC Report:

Still need to fill this position, committee is still in place.

DCM Report:

Bruce L. reported that he has been passing new meeting cards to the groups. He attended the GSR meeting at the Gwinn Inter-Group and reported that the problems that are noted in our district are shared by other districts and groups in finding people for service work. Also noted that he contacted Larry the area correction chair to see if the area can get correction handbooks for are district.
