Corrections Report 12/27/2011

During the last month I received 6 cans of coffee from Darryl N. the treasurer of the Early Friday Night AA Group, of which I gave Gordon P. one can for the Florence County corrections meetings and now have six on reserve.  I also received a 24 Hour a Day book for the same Florence Men's AA Corrections meeting.  This was donated by the Thursday Night Newcomers AA group and was signed by the members of that group.  Life is good!

Respectfully Submitted: Dennis S.

Webmaster/Coordinator Report 12/27/2011

On November 30 after contacting B & H of New York about the Belkin router which was not in stock, I contacted Tiger Direct another online sales store and ordered the same Belkin router at the same price, however, had to pay shipping, resulting in a total cost of $32.98 total.

On Saturday, December 10 along with Carol H moved shipment of products to the district office. The new APC battery was hooked up. Had difficulties with both the Belkin router and new HP printer that were lacking different hookup cords.

On Monday, December 26 was able to purchase cords needed at the office from Affordable PC Service & Supply at 1219 Carpenter Ave, Iron Mountain for a price of $9.00 and attacked the district office with new found optimistic outlook of things to come only to be disappointed that nothing again was to go right. I shut the lights off, locked the door behind me, and ventured home to my waiting easy chair to meditate with my higher power, realizing that 2 heads are better than one.

In the month of December performed at home updates for the district 17 website, adding the November Newsletter, Intergroup minutes, and changing announcements, as unable to get onto the Internet at district office.

On Tuesday, December 27 at district office to perform updates for the monthly webmaster report and to open the conference room downstairs for the district 17 monthly GSR meeting.

Will along with Carol get to the district office and complete hooking up the new printer and Belkin wireless router in near future.

The District 17 Office has _1,700_ meeting cards in drawer.

The 0900 AA Hotline _49_hits, including _11_ calls w/no option pressed.

The District website _102_ hits the past month.

Any member of the fellowship with sobriety can become a contact on the option #8 contact listing for a 3-month period. This listing should periodically be updated, especially for those who are about to take a 3-month turn with their listing on option #8.  Email to: dcm@district17a74.org .

As a regular monthly reminder, must train people (female/male) the operation as coordinator of the 0900 AA Hotline and as webmaster of the district website. Carol H will be taking over for Cliff W on Jan 1, 2012 and anyone interested in getting involved with being webmaster or coordinator for 0900 AA Hotline please contact a District 17 committee member, or show up at the monthly GSR district meeting the last Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at District 17 Office in Kingsford.

Cliff W. will post a flyer for WI Young People’s conference WICYPAA; go to District 17 website for more information.

DCM Report 12/27/2011

Marquette Intergroup was very enjoyable to attend. At the GSR meeting it was announced that District 19 (Escanaba) has no DCM and has gone dark to the Area. This is the second District in the U P to go Dark, the other was Iron Wood. There was talk about setting up a Bridging the Gap type program with Great Lakes Recovery.
At the Area Committee meeting on the 17th of December, it was reported that shipping costs will be going up on literature ($0-$50=$10, $50-$250=19%, $250-$500=16% and over $500 = 0 cost). The Big Book is now available on-line but only for Apple products. This was done without contact to membership. Just a press release, the question of promotion comes up. Cost around $6.
The Area was approached about splitting District 16 (Ontonagon to Baraga).

Bruce L. received email from Marty asking if we wanted to put on a workshop in 2012.

Cliff W. said there was a workshop approximately 4 years ago and it was a good turnout. All information on that workshop is on the district website in archives.

Attached is a letter from Marty explaining the workshop

To District 17

Hey all, I wish you a wonderful Christmas week ahead. Gloria O. and I have somewhat confirmed a district event for district 09 to be held in Menominee, MI on Sunday June 3, 2012. I'll be attending that as we confirm the agenda, etc.

Here's my question to district 01 and 02 and 17 and 19 -- It would be great for me, if your districts would care to plan some kind of event [maybe even together] on Saturday June 2nd. I could make the trip down, stay the night and be in Menominee on Sunday?

That would allow me to get the most bang for my buck on a road trip to that side of the state.  Bruce in district 17 and Mary Jo in district 19 or Ellen in district 02 and district 01  (I don't know the new DCM for 01 yet) would be another option for me.

I'll just open this up to you all to consider if you would care to take advantage of me being in the region, my duty is to serve your groups so just a thought for your upcoming district meetings.  I look forward to doing my best to represent your groups.

Please pass this on to the incoming DCM’s or appropriate district committees that may care to plan something...

Merry Christmas to all and May 2012 bring sober blessings to you and your families.

In service, with love,

Marty Laakso
