District 17 Newsletter

                   August 4, 2006

Peace and Serenity to all. I am happy to say that this month I am again enclosing the notes from our 8th District Meeting held Wednesday, July 26th, 2006 at 6:15 pm, in Pembine, WI at St. Margaret’s Church , Jennifer was filling in for Marion, the District 17 secretary. Thanks Jennifer. They are as follows:
      District Meeting - 7/26/2006

      Opened with The Serenity Prayer

Present were Jill B. (Norway Monday Night), Dennis (Monday Night Iron Mountain), Jen J. (Wednesday Night Randville, Cliff W. (Iron Mountain VA Groups & district treasurer), Steve S. (DCM), Don L. (Pembine)
      1) Finances - (Cliff) - Please see
Financial Report
      2) Corrections report (Dennis)
Received $45.00 from the Tuesday Night Serenity group in Iron Mountain, which was used to purchase 10 Living Sober books. The balance of $3.25 was used for coffee for the jail meeting.
Our friend Terry G. has now got his thumbprints on record & has been going in. It’ll be nice to watch him grow as time passes.
Cliff W. reports that more Living Sober books are on order from other groups. Thanks Cliff … for all you do. Your service is much appreciated. God knows what your present planting of actions will grow to be.
Submitted by Dennis (re-typed by Jen)
      3) Steve - About the corrections committee: A big question to take back to our individual groups … Should the district pitch in $$ if the correction committee has financial needs that they cannot meet?
** The district last contributed $263.00 for Big Books & Living Sober books in 2003. From 2003 to 2006 all correction funds were covered out-of-pocket by the corrections committee members. The district did not contribute at all.
      4) Cliff - The Daily News has a Daily planner which lists all AA, Alanon, & NA meetings in the area. This is not up-to-date, & Cliff has an appointment with a staffer at the paper to correct this.
      5) Steve - Intergroup questions: What is happening with our area Intergroup Committee? Has anyone received a wrap-up statement? How did we do $$-wise this year? How will a Chairperson be selected next year? Jen has agreed to contact Sharon with these questions, & to invite her to the next GSR meeting to give a report.
      6) Other Intergroup information: The August Intergroup is in Munising on August 12th, at the American Legion. Traditionally, this is the Intergroup where the districts bid for the 2007 Intergroups. Jen will contact Sharon to see if anyone from our district is bidding for our usual April spot. September’s Intergroup is in Ontanogon on September 2nd at the High School. October = Newberry, October 14th, (4:00 corrections, 5:00 GSR meeting, 6:00 Dinner, 7:00 Speakers, DANCE TO FOLLOW!!! Times are EST)
      7) District web site: Our web site has received compliments from far & wide! (Vickie R from Escanaba commented on how nice it looks). Please suggest to your groups that they visit the district web site, & make suggestions for improvement.
       8) Jen - Suggested that we decide as a group where the next month’s GSR meeting will be held, so that we have the information ahead of time. Jen will check with Crystal Falls to see if we could meet prior to their Thursday Night meeting in August. The September meeting will be held in Felch, but the exact date is yet unknown. This meeting coincides with that meeting’s anniversary, so a potluck will be held.
      Closed with The Lord’s Prayer

      In Love and Service,
