Corrections Report: 10/30/2012

As of 10/30/12 there is not a lot going on either with the men or women in corrections.  All is well as far as I can see.  Some extra books have been brought into the jails and the district has ordered quite a few other books.  A Daily Meditation book has been designated to keep in our box, so we have one available to read at each meeting in Dickinson County.

Jim B will start attending jail meetings with Dennis and we welcome him to the group.  The women are still divided into blocks, so they come down for a meeting every other week.  The past few weeks, there's been all new gals, between 4 to 6 girls each week.  Still seeing a few females at meetings regularly which is encouraging.

James B reported that about 4 men have been attending the meeting in Florence.  James was allowed to bring a sponsees for a meeting to share his story.  Val V reported that Cheryl has volunteered to do the first Monday of the month at the women's jail meeting which will help Val.  Welcome Cheryl.

We continue to encourage a meeting the day they get out of jail, getting off to a good start, and reminding ourselves that we are there to give hope but it is up to them.  We can only deliver the message.  A new schedule has been made for the women's meeting in Dickinson County through January 2013.

     Respectfully submitted,

                                  Debbie G.

Webmaster/Coordinator Report: 10/30/2012

On Monday, October 1 was at the district 17 office to update option #9 of the AA 0900 Hotline, brought a batch of meeting cards downstairs to Community Substance Abuse Services, Inc office, and dropped off district check for 3-month rent payment through December.

On Oct 3 a realtor tracked me to my apartment to inform me that the district 17 office building was to be purchased by a Mr. Michael Peters of Iron Mountain and in turn would be signing papers on Friday, October 5th. The realtor also informed me that the Community Substance Abuse Services, Inc (CSAS) was to close down their business here in Kingsford. I was able to contact Mike Peters by phone and he stated that he would like District 17 to continue renting the office in the building.

On Friday, October 5, met with Jackie and Diane at CSAS to confirm that the building was indeed sold and that the CSAS business was closing down.

On Friday, October 19 met with Mike Peters and CSAS personnel for further updates. The closing date for the purchase is slated for Monday, November 5. Jackie informed me that the CSAS business would be moved out by November 5 and were in the process of cleaning out the building and selling furnishings. CSAS will remain operative at the Iron River office located in the St Agnes school building. Voices of Youth that had been renting an office down the hall from our District 17 office have also closed their doors and moved everything out in the first week of October. CSAS returned the district check I gave them back on October 1st. CSAS also has donated to the district their kitchen/dining room wooden table and 10 orange cushion chairs.

Mike Peters and wife operate 2 businesses Interwoven Technologies, LLC that has to do with computer technology. He stated that the purchase included the T-house located across the parking lot facing Carpenter Avenue that will house the Interwoven Technologies, LLC. The other business is a realtor business, Juniper Properties, LLC that will have an office in the district office building. It was agreed that district 17 office will remain as is and the rent to be paid at $30 a month through December and the use of the conference room.

I explained to Mike Peters all the concepts of AA as we sat in the district office including non-profit organization, anonymity, and support by our own contributions. The district office will lose their wireless Internet contact; however, Mike Peters stated that the power and heat will remain on entering the winter months.

On Monday, October 29 was at district office as the AA 0900 Hotline was off line due to a serious error that caused the computer to shut down due to a possible driver issue.

On Tuesday, October 30 at district office to perform monthly updates, prepare report, and open the downstairs conference room for the monthly district GSR meeting.

The District 17 Office has _100_ meeting cards in drawer divided into stacks of 50 cards.

The 0900 AA Hotline _52_hits, including _14_ calls w/no option pressed and 5 calls option #8 pressed.

The District website _107_hits the past month.

Any member of the fellowship with sobriety can become a contact on the option #8 contact listing for a 3-month period. This listing should periodically be updated, especially for those who are about to take a 3-month turn with their listing on option #8. Email to:   dcm@district17a74.org).

As a regular monthly reminder, must train people (female/male) the operation as coordinator of the 0900 AA Hotline and as webmaster of the district website. Anyone interested in getting involved with being webmaster or coordinator for 0900 AA Hotline please contact a District 17 committee member, or show up at the monthly GSR district meeting the last Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at District 17 Office in Kingsford.

Archives Report 10/30/2012

Joanne made a motion that we look for someone to replace Daryl for Archives chair as he has not been at a monthly meeting for about 4 months.  A motion has been made that a chair person can't miss 3 consecutive months without reason to be dropped as chair person.  This motion was seconded and passed.

Subject: Mark Seeberg, letter concerning GSR secretary volunteer

Hello
Valerie V recently informed me of an opening or need for a GSR secretary.  My purpose in contacting you to express my interest in volunteering in said position.
As concerns eligibility for position of GSR secretary, while I have been in active recovery for three years, I have been eight months continuous sober as a result of relapse--I am not sure if this fulfills any required sobriety period.  Please contact me if the above does, in fact, fulfill any potential required sobriety period and if you are interested.  I've over ten years employment experience in administration as well as three years experience as a volunteer event planning committee member for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  As regards volunteering as secretary, helping out and helping others in their own recovery is a benefit to my own and I would welcome the opportunity.

My email address is Tlaloc54@aol.com
Thank you for your consideration,
Mark Seeberg

Your service
Bruce L

Motion was made to accept as presented.

New Business:

Bruce did mention that he would attend the business meeting at the Alano Club the first weekend in November.  The building that encloses the District Office has been sold and we will remain in Kingsford till the end of December.  It is felt that the District 17 committee should search for an alternative place to hold the monthly GSR meetings and enclose the District Office as the rent at the present location will rise with the new building owner.

The next Intergroup is in Ishpeming at St John's Church, November 10 and Marquette has the December Intergroup at Negaunee Township Hall.

Mark S was introduced and will be assistant secretary along with Nancy H to begin with as he'll be able to make the monthly meeting and take notes and email results to Nancy H for the monthly report as Nancy is unable to make the meeting because of other obligations.

When anyone anywhere reaches out I want the hand of AA always to be there and for that I am responsible.

Respectfully Submitted;

                                     Nancy H.  Secretary, District 17
