Webmaster Report: 11-24-14

Have continued being active to keep the district 17 website updated as well as the website at Hostek Web Host site for District 17. This has been performed in my home office.

On Monday, November 17 with the AA Hotline off line again had received a Dell desktop computer, monitor, key board and mouse from Brad donated from school system and brought to district office. Spent five hours in replacing the district computer setting up the Dell with Windows 7 Professional, Internet Explore 11 and all attachments including monitor, screen and key board. Access to Internet works good however no double phone jack board with computer. Was able to transfer the double phone jack board from district old computer to work. Contacted EZVoice website to upload and install free 15-day trial EZVoice 3.5 software for our AA Hotline and record all new messages for main message and 9 boxes.

The district office is cold because it’s winter and without heat the computer may not operate continually to keep AA Hotline active. This occurred last year for about five months with no consistent active hotline.

Because of other commitments I quit for the day with much to do with district computer; not setting up printer, APC backup battery or setting up bookmarks. Folders for Hostek Webhost, EZVoice, APC backup battery and AT &T all with information, passwords, etc are in office top drawer of file cabinet.

On Wednesday, November 19 discovered the AA Hotline is off line with no answer by phone; just keeps ringing. Reported to the district office and spent another three hours. The district computer had shut off and the air is cold. First off, discovered the settings to have computer shut down in 20 minutes with no activity. Reset the settings to Never shut down. Next downloaded free AVG protection and developed a bookmark folder District17 for websites on Google Chrome. Windows Microsoft had 162 updates to install and started the installing. I then spent time putting up wall insulation on the two windows located at the district desk & computer facing west using duct tape. Kathy M had put up plastic on the other 2 district office windows and created two air vents removing two door panels. I installed a small rack on the west wall overlooking the computer to place the office printer on. The office phone will sit on the computer. I made a call using the Alano Club phone downstairs to the AA Hot line which worked great. I further bookmark district 17 website, Hostek Web Host and EZvoice websites. In the middle desk drawer under the computer key board are the papers and discs for APC back up battery and our HP jet printer. I downloaded with the disc the info for APC and right away warning notification for updates to install. At a later date I concluded.

After two hours plus Microsoft Windows 7 Professional had installed 84 updates to do with security, Internet Explore 11 and other Windows 7 Professional functions. I discontinued with another 75 updates to be installed at a later date. Now with the 84 updates installed a warning notification read restart computer. This process took another 30 minutes for the purpose of configuring Windows updates. I quit for the day.

On Monday, November 24 reported to district with the AA Hotline working and continued installing Microsoft Windows 7 updates, a total of 75 that took another two hours with a demand to restart and a period of configuring Windows updates. On setting page, Microsoft Windows will download updates when available, however, someone has to be present in office to install the updates that’ll demand a restart of computer and configuring Windows updates.

Installed updates to the APC back up battery now active. Uploaded using disc and installed HP 1000 desktop jet-printer and tested with results affirmative. Attended the monthly GSR meeting at 6 p.m.

The District 17 Office has_800_meeting cards in drawer.

The 0900 AA Hotline registered _28_ hits this past month including 8 hits this past week with new computer.

The District website recorded _130_ hits this past month with the counter at 9,395 total hits.

Any member of the fellowship with sobriety can become a contact on the option #8 contact listing for a 3-month period. This listing should periodically be updated, especially for those who are about to take a 3-month turn with their listing on option #8.    email to:   dcm@district17a74.org

As a regular monthly reminder, must train people (female/male) the operation as coordinator of the 0900 AA Hotline and as webmaster of the district website. Anyone interested in getting involved with being webmaster or coordinator for 0900 AA Hotline please contact a District 17 committee member, or show up at the monthly GSR district meeting the last Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at District 17 Office at Alano Club Iron Mountain.
