District 17 Corrections Report 8/24/06
(submitted by Dennis S., re-typed for this report by Steve S.)
Received books from the New Hope Group VAMC, Iron Mtn. and distributed to
both men and women’s corrections groups.
Received donation of $15.00 from Norway Monday Night AA Group, purchased
two cans of coffee, receipt submitted with this report.
Informal corrections meeting held on 8/20/06 at Iron River Alano club.
Thanks go to Keith K. for his help in getting this together and giving me really
good directions on how to find the elusive Alano Club. In attendance were Keith
K, whom does both men’s AA meeting at the prison camp and Iron County
Corrections, Jill and Pam whom do the Iron County Corrections Women’s AA meeting
twice a week, and Bob and Chuck from the Florence County Corrections Men’s AA
meetings.
Issues of Discussion;
Anonymity, which is understood that those hosting meeting can not expect
their personal anonymity to be kept.
Literature, keeping basic to the Big Book, 12 X 12, Living Sober, all soft
covers, and entry type pamphlets, This is AA, 44 Questions, and is AA for you?
Local group sponsorship for local corrections which seems to have some
support and is lacking the area of Iron County Women’s meeting of which Crystal
Falls area groups and all other groups in district if they wish, could give help
with literature. Also, as far as prison camp, the sponsorship for this should be
supported by the district as a whole, which was the consensus of this meeting.
Florence County as the Tuesday Night AA meeting for sponsorship, and
Dickinson County as the support of 4 different groups at present. However, if
any group wishes to offer support for any meeting they are as a group autonomous
and may do so.
Last but not least, I will contact Area Chari person, Dylan, to see about
getting basic pamphlets from the area.
Personally, I was grateful for everyone coming together for this meeting.
Most of all I have great respect for their willingness to care and share as they
do with the courage to change for the better.
Truly yours in Recovery,
Dennis S.
