Subject: Monthly GSR Meeting
Date: Saturday, December 27th, 2003
Location: Alano Club Iron Mountain, Mi
105 W. Flesheim St
At 5:30 P.M. (CST) this meeting was called to order by DCM Bill D. with the
Serenity Prayer. Those in attendance for this meeting were Charles K., Joe C.,
Larry W., Sharon W., Bill D., Daryl J., and Cliff W.
Cliff submitted the minutes of the previous meeting for review. A motion
was made to accept and passed as mailed. The financial report was then
reviewed. Larry stated that there has been a slack in contributions from
District AA Groups. A motion was made to accept and passed as mailed. (See
attached financial report submitted by Sharon).
OLD BUSINESS: Cliff reported that contact with Pete Schlitt at the Dickinson
County Sheriff’s department concerning the 0900 AA Hotline # has been ongoing.
With the completion of remodeling of an addition to the present building, a new
911 call receiving station has been added. Cliff stated that changes are in the
plans for the 0900 AA Hotline, with an added option. At present the options
list all the meetings of District 17 recovery groups. In case this to be an
emergency, the caller is told to hang up and dial 911. The new added option
(example: press 9) will be to talk to someone affiliated with AA (Al-Anon or NA
?). The personnel taking the call will announce AA Hotline. This person will
then accept a name and telephone # from the caller. District 17 will present a
list of names for this person to call in relaying the callers name and number to
be reached.
Larry reported that this same system was in effect when the 0900 AA Hotline
was located at the State Police Post. One of the problems that occurred was
having people in AA that is willing to be on the calling list to receive calls
24/7.
After further discussion, Cliff stated that he would come up with a form to
be distributed to all recovery groups in District 17. This form to be filled
out with the information of the Groups name, place/time of meeting, GSR
representative, and the Groups service # with Alcoholics Anonymous in New York.
At the bottom will be a listing of person(s) willing to be added to the 0900 AA
Hotline receiving list to be presented to the 911 receiving station at the DCCC.
Length time of clean & sober is a must.
A discussion pursued on District 17 holding a GSR Workshop. It was agreed
and tabled for further discussion on holding a GSR Workshop at the Intergroup to
be held in Kingsford in April.
Sharon stated that the material requested by Ken W. for the DCCC has
arrived. The total cost for the eight-(8) soft cover pocket version of BB and
AA pamphlets was $40.12. Bill stated that he would present the material to
Dennis S. as Ken has now headed out to Arizona for the winter months.
After a short discussion, it was agreed by all District 17 officers to move
the Monthly GSR Meeting to the First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain for the
last Saturday of each month. The new starting time will be 6:00 P.M. (CST).
This change was conducted for the reason of conflict with the 6:30 AA Meeting
being held at the Alano Club.
NEW BUSINESS: The next Traveling Intergroup is slated for Saturday, January
17th, 2004 at the St John’s Church in Ishpeming.
A thank you very much went out to all District 17 officers for the past two
years of Service Work to District 17.
The new Area Registrar is Kathy Kennedy, P.O. Box 531, Rhinelander, Wi
